Leaving a notebook
Lab notebook data export after cancellation, by vendor
Updated
A lab that stops paying for its notebook can lose the records it wants to license. These are the exit windows the vendors on our board write into their terms.
Short windows
SciNote defines its termination period as a maximum of 30 days and puts the whole job of downloading research data on the customer. Benchling may irretrievably erase or archive customer data beginning sixty days after its terms end.

Labstep warns that termination or expiry without renewal may result in deleting the customer's content, and Labguru's website terms say ending access may mean the destruction of information on the account.

A long read-only tail
LabArchives keeps enterprise research and education data read only during the agreement and for no less than three years after the licence ends, though downloads in that period are paid for under a separate order.

8 of the 15 vendors state no exit window in the documents we read, so ask before you cancel. Who takes the records once they are out is at licensing research data.
